Montage -

After Montage

film pitch

In our groups, we presented our ideas to the class. After each pitch, the groups were given feedback. Our idea was liked by our class mates but we did recieve some constructive feedback that we have taken aboard.
Our main concern is how we are going to find a garve stone with the character name we have chosen which is Tyler Johnson and that people that are around in the cemetery may not enjoy us filming there. We have over come the grave stone crisis as we are going to film the grave stone from the back so the name can't be seen. However, our teacher helped us with our second dilema and told us to be very polite in the cemetery as he doesn't want us to make others feel uncomfortable.

Another concern was about our choice of clothing for our ghost, our class thinks we need to make sure we portray him as a ghost and not a average teenager.
We have taken on board all these points and hope to make our opening sequence better based on this feedback.

Screen play for Oblivious

Yesterday, we typed up our screenplayes. The general idea is to have a page per minute and so for each group, there had to be two pages. Our group had two pages so our film should come up near to 2 minutes.
This is our screenpay

Props

A black rose isn't a real flower, we would like to artificially have one of these made for our opening sequence.
The reason for this is because when Dhylan (a main character) goes to the cemetery, we would like him to put these flowers on Tyler's grave (other main character). We want a black rose because black symbolises death and a rose is usually a loving flower. So we are trying to express both these things just by using a flower. If we are unable to get a black rose, then we shall have to use other flowers that are black. But we prefer if it were a black rose.
Tyler Johnson

The reason behind the clothing is that as a group we wanted to put emphysis behind the message that Tyler is young we feel the clothing we chose shows , signify his youthism .We decided to use the black colours as it is very subtle and easily missed and something you wouldnt look twice at .

Moodboard for Oblivious

This is our moodboard for our film, Oblivious. The images we have here are there just to set a mood and an idea to which the audience associates with the film and its theme of death and darkness. The image in the centre of the moodboard is a picture of a montage showing two best friends as they've grown up together over the years, we chose this image as we too are looking to do a montage of our two characters as they were also best friends.

Preliminary task

Our group made this clip as part of our preliminary task to demonstrate our editing skills and show our understanding of techniques and tricks such as the 180 degree rule and continuity , the clip shows a pan , the opening of a door from many different angles and also a shot reverse shot .

Preliminary task

In today's lesson we were told that we were going to film our preliminary task. We got into our groups and came up with ideas, ours included a student who was late for his lesson so we had a pan shot of him arriving to his lesson which then cut to the classroom in which the teacher is teaching, he gets told off and later sits next to his classmate who had been texting urging him to hurry to lesson (this will all be shown in the clip to come) they have a short conversation about why he was late. The camera angles we used for the dialogue was an over the shoulder shot as well as a reverse shot. Hopefully the video will be up by the end of Fridays lesson as we will be editing during the lesson.

Always learning...

Today we went to Southfields college to learn how to edit the short clips we recorded during our lesson last week. I showed up at the college only to find three other classmates awaiting late comers, after much waiting Mr.Kay decided that we should start as time was an issue. We entered the computer room which had many hi-tech Apple Mac computers, the teacher had us all grab a seat at a computer while he was setting up our clips, during this time Mr.Kay had us open up GarageBand for a little play around so we could get familiar with the software.

Now the learning had begun the teacher showed us how to drag each clip into our final video, we all made our own individual clip from the same recorded footage so it'll be good to see what the others come up with. After much playing around Shahrukh turned up late although it was a good thing as he was another group member who made it, unfortunately we were missing Ainsley who couldn't make it. With the time we had left at the college we learnt how add sound, titles and effects to our clips and then headed off back to school. On the way back me and Shahrukh spotted a potential location for our opening scene.

streatham cemetery

although this image isnt of streatham cemetery it gives off a brilliant effect which goes brilliantly with our theme.

Feedback

After presenting our ideas to other classmates, we received some feedback mostly positive. Our idea of having a montage of a child's life was said to be unique and the effect it would have on the audience help develop emotion etc. There are some issues we may potentially face which involve the child character in our clip and how'd they respond to constant directions, filming the same scene from different angles etc. So we have to consider these factors before we proceed.

Opening scene ideas

We got into our groups on Friday, and we came up with a few ideas for our opening scene. Here they are
